Selecting Insulating Materials for Building Envelope: A Life Cycle Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper aims at assessing the embodied energy and greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) of two building envelopes, designed for a floors semi-detached house located in Central Italy. The analysis is performed by applying Life Cycle Assessment methodology, following from cradle-to-gate approach. Fixtures (windows doors), external internal opaque walls, roof (including interstorey floors) make envelopes. Their stratigraphy allows achieving thermal transmittance values established Italian Decree on performance buildings. examined envelopes differ only insulation material: extruded expanded polystyrene (XPS) or cellulose fibers. results shows that envelope using fibers has better than XPS: it reducing GHGs about 13% 9.3%, respectively. A dominance to identify components responsible higher impacts contribution insulating material impacts. study part research “Analysis technologies efficiency buildings life cycle perspective” funded Three-year Research Plan within National Electricity System 2019-2021.

The common presence of the radioactive nuclides in the environment cause that the whole population are exposed to radiation. The dose that is annually received by Polish population from natural sources of radiation is about 2.4 mSv per year [1]. According to the UNSCEAR 2000 Report [2], radon is the greatest contributor of exposure to natural radiation for humans. Soil and the rocks on which th...

Abstract: The big share of electrical breakdown in electrical devices failure among other factors is caused by multitasking such as electrical insulation, mechanical support, energy dissipation, Energy storage, etc. which brings many attentions to lifetime estimation of said insulation material. Up to now, there was no-general theory had been suggested for lifetime estimation of mentioned insul...
متن کاملUsing Life Cycle Assessment Method for Selecting Optimal Waste Management System in Tehran City
Introduction: In Tehran with a population of 9 million currently, about 2.5 million tons municipal solid waste have been producing annually. Materials and Models: In this study by using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) model an optimal system of waste management of Tehran was recommended. Based on the quantity and quality of waste in Tehran in 2013 and facilities, three scenarios were selected. Fir...
متن کاملThe "ecologue" Approach to Computational Building Life Cycle Analysis
Construction and operation of buildings is internationally a major cause of resource depletion and environmental pollution. Computational performance evaluation tools could support the decision making process in the area of environmentally responsive building design and play an important role in environmental impact assessment, especially when a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach is used. LCA...
متن کاملDetermination of Optimum Insulation Thickness for Building Walls in Iran Using Life Cycle Cost Analysis
Air-Conditioning (AC) systems are responsible for a considerable portion of the energy consumption in buildings located in high cooling load requiring regions of Iran. In addition, the heat flow through the buildingschr('39') external walls plays a major role in cooling load estimations for the countrychr('39')s hot regions. Therefore, application of insulation materials in external walls has g...
